Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s beloved dragon Zog will soar back onto UK stages in 2026, marking the 15th anniversary of the bestselling book with a major tour and a summer season at London’s Cadogan Hall.
The announcement coincides with the launch of Freckle Productions’ Stick Man tour, celebrating two of Donaldson and Scheffler’s most cherished stories taking flight together.
First published in 2010, Zog has become a family favourite, and Freckle Productions’ stage adaptation—first seen in 2019—has delighted audiences with its blend of live music, puppetry, and laugh-out-loud storytelling.
Featuring joyful songs by Joe Stilgoe and puppets designed by Little Angel Theatre, the production brings Madam Dragon’s school to life in a vibrant, theatrical treat for all ages.
“I’m not braggin’ but I’m a dragon.”
Zog is the keenest dragon in school, but also the most accident-prone. From flying into trees to setting his wing alight, he’s always in need of patching up. Luckily, a kind girl is there to help—but can she assist with his biggest challenge yet?
Jennifer Sutherland, Executive Producer at Freckle Productions, said, “At Freckle we love bringing Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s stories to life on stage, and Zog has been a joy to share with families over the years. With the book marking its 15th anniversary in 2025, we’re delighted to continue the celebrations with a UK tour in 2026 and a summer season at Cadogan Hall. And without giving too much away, fans can also look forward to more adventures ahead when Zog and the Flying Doctors takes off on tour in 2027.”
The 2026 tour will visit new venues including The Everyman, Cork; Hull Truck; Harlow Playhouse; and Pavilion Theatre, Glasgow.
It will also mark Zog’s debut at major theatres across the UK and Ireland, including Northern Stage, Newcastle; The Victoria, Halifax; Watford Palace; Queen’s Theatre, Hornchurch; Lancaster Grand; Yvonne Arnaud, Guildford; Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh; and The Grand Opera House, York.
The tour culminates in a summer season at Cadogan Hall, London from 2–23 August 2026.
Zog is adapted from the award-winning book by Julia Donaldson, illustrated by Axel Scheffler. Since its release, the story has sold over 4.8 million copies and was adapted into a BBC One animated special in 2018, featuring Sir Lenny Henry, Tracey Ullman, Rob Brydon and Kit Harington.
