Sonia Friedman Productions, in association with Nica Burns, has announced the full company for the upcoming West End production of Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, alongside the release of 5,500 front row seats across the run.
Directed in-the-round by Marianne Elliott, the production will run at @sohoplace from 21 September to 19 December 2026, with a press night on 30 September.
Gillian Anderson will star as Martha opposite Billy Crudup as George, with Josh Dylan as Nick and Phoebe Horn as Honey.
The newly announced understudy company includes Alex Cartuson as Understudy Nick, Jessica Kirton as Understudy Martha, Georgia Miles as Understudy Honey and Simon Willmont as Understudy George.
Designed in-the-round, the production promises to place audiences at the heart of Edward Albee’s classic drama.
The play follows Martha and George as a late-night gathering with a younger couple spirals into a brutal battle of wit, manipulation and truth.
The synopsis reads: “In the early hours of the morning on the campus of an American college, Martha, much to her husband George’s displeasure, has invited the new professor Nick and his wife Honey to their home for some after-party drinks. As the alcohol flows and dawn approaches, the young couple are drawn into George and Martha’s toxic games until the evening reaches its climax in a moment of devastating truth-telling.”
The creative team includes designer Miriam Buether, lighting designer James Farncombe, sound designer Ian Dickinson, casting directors Jim Carnahan CSA and Liz Fraser CSA, movement and intimacy director Ingrid Mackinnon, voice and dialect coach Charmian Hoare, and fight director Sam Lyon-Behan.
The production will be produced in the West End by Sonia Friedman Productions and Winkler & Smalberg, in association with Nica Burns.
