Gigglemug Theatre is once again teaming up with the Edinburgh Food Project during this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe—but this time, with a delicious twist.
Following last year’s successful initiative where audiences donated Jaffa Cakes to local food banks, this year A Jaffa Cake Musical will be giving away Jaffa Cakes to audience members after each performance. In return, audiences are encouraged to make donations to the Edinburgh Food Project.
The production was a smash hit at last year’s Fringe, selling out its entire run and earning over 30 four- and five-star reviews.
Inspired by the 1991 tribunal that debated whether a Jaffa Cake is a cake or a biscuit, A Jaffa Cake Musical is the latest creation from the multi-award-winning team behind Scouts! The Musical, RuneSical, and Timpson: The Musical.
This year marks the final performances of A Jaffa Cake Musical at the Fringe, making it the last chance for audiences to catch the show—and grab some Jaffas in the process.
The Edinburgh Food Project operates seven food banks across the city, supporting over 6,000 people annually with emergency food and essential items. In 2024 alone, the organisation distributed 19,760 food parcels to people in crisis.
Sam Cochrane, Artistic Director of Gigglemug Theatre, said:
“Last year over 3,700 people came to watch A Jaffa Cake Musical at the Fringe and understandably audience members often left craving a packet of Jaffa Cakes. This year we’re giving the people what they want whilst helping a fantastic organisation in the process. A Jaffa Cake Musical debates whether a Jaffa Cake is a cake or a biscuit, everyone has their own opinion, but one thing we can all agree on is that no one should have to go hungry this August.”
Calypso Coulton, Fundraiser for the Edinburgh Food Project, added:
“We’re excited to continue our partnership with A Jaffa Cake Musical! This year, they’re kindly giving away Jaffa Cakes for a suggested donation. We know how much you’ll be craving a Jaffa Cake after enjoying the show—trust us, we’ve been there! It’s a fantastic idea, and every packet helps make a real difference to those struggling to afford food across Edinburgh.”
