Following the success of its spring edition, A Merry Old Variety Night returns to Stratford East on Thursday 4 December at 8pm, promising an evening of festive entertainment, laughter, and community spirit.

Hosted by award-winning comedian Thanyia Moore and ventriloquist Lachlan Werner, this celebratory event marks Stratford East’s 140th anniversary and pays homage to its rich tradition of variety nights.

Artistic Director Lisa Spirling, Executive Director Hanna Streeter, and Associate Artistic Director Jade Lewis said:
“After the incredible success of our last Variety Night, we simply had to bring it back — with a festive twist! Join us for an unforgettable evening celebrating local artists and performers who’ll take to the stage in true Stratford East style. Expect a night bursting with talent, laughter, and community spirit.”

The line-up features a dazzling array of performers:

  • Thanyia Moore, known for Mock the Week, EastEnders, and Alma’s Not Normal, brings her dynamic presence and sharp wit to the stage.
  • Lachlan Werner, described as “comedy’s poof prince of puppets”, offers a surreal blend of ventriloquism and clowning that has wowed audiences from Soho Theatre to Edinburgh Fringe.
  • Flo & Joan, the musical comedy sister duo behind viral hits and appearances on Live at the Apollo and Comic Relief, will deliver their signature harmonies and clever lyrics.
  • London School of Samba, the UK’s oldest samba school, will transform the evening into a carnival with vibrant costumes and infectious rhythms.
  • The Stratford East Singers, a community choir led by Byron Gold, bring big harmonies and a decade of sold-out performances.
  • Bollywood Vibes, one of the UK’s leading Bollywood dance companies, promise dazzling choreography and high-energy entertainment.
  • Dru Cripps, a multi-award-winning performer, will improvise musical comedy using a loop station and audience suggestions.
  • Jiving Lindy Hoppers, the UK’s finest authentic jazz dance company, return with Harlem-inspired swing and rhythm.
  • The Majorettes, a Guinness World Record–holding hula hoop troupe, will spin, skate, and sparkle with festive flair.

Expect an evening filled with comedy, music, dance, and surprise guests in true Stratford East style. Audiences are encouraged to dress to impress and join the celebration of 140 years of bold and brilliant entertainment.
