KB Productions, in association with Park Theatre, presents a revival of After Miss Julie, Patrick Marber’s adaptation of August Strindberg’s classic play.

Set in 1945 on the night of Labour’s historic landslide victory, After Miss Julie explores class, gender, and manipulation through a tense love triangle.

Julie, the daughter of a powerful MP, embarks on a disastrous affair with her father’s chauffeur, John, while Christine, the cook and John’s fiancée, watches the power dynamics unravel.

The production is directed by Dadiow Lin, whose previous work Belly of the Beast was praised by The Stage for its “appealingly acidic humour and sharply observed dialogue.”

The cast features Liz Francis (Tomorrow) as Julie, Tom Varey (Hamnet, RSC) as John, and Charlene Boyd (June Carter Cash: The Woman, Her Music and Me).

Review: Dracapella at Park Theatre

Director Dadiow Lin said, “For me, Marber’s After Miss Julie is about people, despite the innate difference that lies between their biology and social status, who recognise each other’s hunger of breaking the barriers and be free, yet are trapped by the very world that shapes them. Marber’s words are raw and tender, full of longing and cruelty in equal measure. What moves me is its brutal truth, that hope can be both our greatest strength and our deepest wound. It is a story that feels heartbreakingly human, and devastatingly now: we carry on dreaming intensely while the dreams carry on being crushed.”

After Miss Julie runs at Park90, Park Theatre from 11 to 28 February, with a press night on Friday 13 February at 7pm.

Running time is 60 minutes and the show is suitable for ages 12+. Content warnings include strong language, nudity, depictions of violence, and references to suicide and sexual abuse.
