Alexandra Palace has become only the third venue ever to be awarded Platinum Status on Attitude is Everything’s Live Events Access Charter.

This prestigious recognition marks Alexandra Palace as an industry leader in accessibility, following a six-year transformative journey to embed inclusive practices across all aspects of its operations.

Jack Brooks, Head of Visitor Services at Alexandra Palace, said:
“I would like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who has supported our efforts to improve accessibility at Ally Pally. This recognition reflects the commitment of the whole team in facing the challenges head on and making our ambitions in this area a reality. It obviously doesn’t stop here. Maintaining these standards goes hand in hand with continuing to listen, evolve and address issues that may yet arise. This award demonstrates that accessibility is, and always will be, a priority here.”

The Platinum Status was awarded by Attitude is Everything, a disability-led charity working to improve access to live events. The venue was assessed against 641 separate criteria.

Alex Covell, Head of Live Events Access at Attitude is Everything, said:
“It’s a real joy to present Alexandra Palace with our Platinum Award. This recognition marks a genuinely transformative journey. The team have gone beyond the basics, embedding accessibility into every part of their operations – not just for audiences, but also for staff and visiting artists. They’ve shown real dedication to placing disabled people at the heart of their work, co-producing spaces that are inclusive, welcoming and full of the magic that live events can bring. We’re so grateful to them for taking the time to be part of our updated Charter pilot and for shining as a beacon of best practice across the sector.”

Physical improvements at Alexandra Palace include step-free access throughout the building, a Changing Places facility, accessible viewing platforms, induction loops, and over 1,200 Blue Badge car park spaces.

Policy changes include a dedicated access officer, assistance dog policies, free companion tickets, and access awareness training for all staff.

Digital accessibility has also been enhanced with screen reader and zoom text technology, video captions, audio recordings, and large print materials.

Alexandra Palace is also collaborating with Haringey Council and TFL to improve accessibility at Alexandra Palace train station, extending its impact beyond the venue itself.

The venue has received additional accolades, including recognition from the Research Institute of Disabled Consumers and the Inclusive Customer Experience award at the Business Disability Forum Awards.

Programming at Alexandra Palace includes events tailored for the deaf and disabled community, such as Rhythm Stick Club Night, Accessible Skate, Singing for the Brain, and Café Palais.

Theatre and concert events also feature British Sign Language interpretation, captioning, relaxed performances, and audio description.
