The Almeida Theatre has announced the full cast for its upcoming production of Desire Under the Elms, directed by former Almeida Resident Director Ebenezer Bamgboye.
Joining the previously announced Zackary Momoh are Jamie Beamish, Antony Byrne, Thomas Coombes, Kelly Gough, Choolwe Laina Muntanga, Tendai Humphrey Sitima and Nathaniel Wade.
Bamgboye, whose previous credits include The Lonely Londoners, directs Momoh in a new staging of Eugene O’Neill’s twentieth-century classic. The production opens on 17 November, with previews from 10 November, and runs until 23 December 2026.
Set on a family farm, the drama follows Eben and his half-brothers as they dream of escaping their circumstances and securing their futures. Those ambitions are thrown into turmoil when their father, Ephraim, unexpectedly returns after a mysterious absence accompanied by a new companion.
Inspired by Greek tragedy, Desire Under the Elms explores the tension between emotion and reason, family loyalty and personal ambition, in what is regarded as one of O’Neill’s most powerful works.
The creative team includes set designer Basia Bińkowska, costume designer Camilla Dely, lighting designer Jack Knowles, sound designer George Dennis, composer XANA, movement and intimacy director Rose Ryan, and casting director Julia Horan CDG.
