Andrew Barth Feldman will make his London stage debut as the title character in NERO, a new musical from Tony Award-winning Spring Awakening creators Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik.

The production will run at Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 2 November to 5 December 2026, with a press night scheduled for 6 November.

Best known for his record-breaking Broadway performance in Dear Evan Hansen and his role opposite Jennifer Lawrence in No Hard Feelings, Feldman takes on the role of one of history’s most infamous rulers in a contemporary reimagining of the Roman emperor’s story.

Directed by Lindsay Posner, NERO explores the life of the young emperor long before his name became synonymous with tyranny. The musical follows an artist and performer unexpectedly thrust into power, as family conflict, political ambition and personal relationships drive him towards infamy.

The new work reunites Sater and Sheik, whose acclaimed collaboration on Spring Awakening earned widespread international recognition. Featuring Sheik’s contemporary score and Sater’s lyrical storytelling, NERO aims to draw connections between ancient Rome and modern celebrity culture, leadership and power.
