Attention, the award-nominated queer love story from co-creators Georgia Bruce and Jules Head, will make its UK debut at Bush Theatre this autumn following a sold-out run at Dublin Fringe Festival.

Running in the Bush Theatre Studio from 19 November to 23 December, the production invites audiences into a relationship unlike any other, where no two performances are ever the same.

When a couple sit down to decide whether their relationship can survive, the actors have the power to reshape the story in real time. Throughout the performance they can revisit arguments, replay moments of joy, or introduce entirely different scenes from the couple’s past. At the end of every performance, both actors must independently decide whether their characters stay together or part ways.

The production arrives in London after a celebrated run in Ireland, where it received seven Dublin Fringe Festival Award nominations, including Best Production.

Attention marks the first collaboration between writer Georgia Bruce, director Jules Head and producer Tilly Taylor, bringing together a creative team with extensive experience across the UK and Ireland.

Georgia Bruce said, “Our interest is in making challenging, formally ambitious work that keeps love and old-fashioned drama at its heart. We’re also a largely queer team, and passionate about telling queer stories. ATTENTION feels like an encapsulation of all of that, and a statement of what’s to come from all of us as artists company.”

Jules Head said, “I grew up playing sport, not watching theatre, partly because my body is bad at sitting still and my brain moves very fast. Because of that, I’ve always been obsessed by the liveness and speed of sport, and curious about whether we can make theatre feel that way too. ATTENTION began as an enquiry into whether we could create a new type of theatre, one that bursts open the rigidity of scripted work and gives actors agency. The result is a show in which no-one, not even the team running it, knows what will happen each night. It feels like a bit of magic.”

The cast will feature Bláithín Mac Gabhann and Norah Lopez Holden, with a creative team including set designer Alys Whitehead, lighting designer Suzie Cummins and composer and sound designer Martha Knight.

Presented by Tilly Taylor and Referee Productions in association with Bush Theatre, Attention is supported by Arts Council England and Culture Ireland.
