Adrian Lukis will reprise his celebrated role as George Wickham when Being Mr Wickham plays the Garrick Theatre for one night only on Sunday 31 May 2026.

The one‑man play, written and performed by Lukis and directed by Guy Unsworth, offers a witty and intimate portrait of one of Jane Austen’s most infamous rogues.

Audiences are invited to join Wickham on the eve of his sixtieth birthday as he reflects on the three decades that followed the events of Pride and Prejudice.

The show peels back the curtain on a lifetime of scandal and charm, as Wickham shares his version of literary history and answers lingering questions about Darcy, Lizzie and even Byron.

As Wickham puts it: “Mr. Wickham is blessed with such happy manners as may ensure his making friends – whether he may be equally capable of retaining them is less certain”.
He is now ready to set the record straight.

Produced by Original Theatre and The Production Garden, the West End performance follows acclaimed runs at Jermyn Street Theatre, New York and Chichester’s Minerva Theatre, as well as a UK tour.

The creative team includes design by Libby Watson, lighting design by Johanna Town and sound design by Max Pappenheim.

Speaking about returning to the role, Adrian Lukis said: “Mr Wickham is back in the West End, among the theatres, clubs and card tables of his youth. Here, at the Garrick Theatre, on the eve of his 60th birthday, Mr Wickham sets us straight: growing up with Darcy, surviving an horrific boarding school, Meryton and the Bennet girls, marriage to Lydia and much, much more! Spend an hour, if you dare, with Austen’s most persuasive charmer. Whether you believe him or not, is entirely up to you!”
