Boundless Theatre and Tamasha will take Blue Mist on a national tour this summer, bringing Mohamed-Zain Dada’s Olivier Award-nominated play to audiences across the UK.

The production examines how young Muslim men are portrayed in the media and follows an aspiring British Pakistani journalist striving to represent his community with integrity.

Directed by Milli Bhatia, the play centres on Jihad, Rashid and Asif at Chunkyz Shisha Lounge, a place where friendships form, ideas grow and the nuances of everyday life shape their identities.

When Jihad is given the chance to make his own documentary, he aims to counter damaging stereotypes, though quickly discovers the limitations of an industry built on sensationalism.

Blue Mist premiered at the Royal Court Upstairs in 2023 and went on to be nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Affiliate Theatre at the 2024 Olivier Awards. It also won the Asian Media Award for Best Stage Production.

This tour will be accompanied by a community strand. Boundless Theatre will work with partner venues to recruit and train six young Community Producers who will curate free creative events inspired by Blue Mist.

Playwright Mohamed-Zain Dada said, “Blue Mist is a story about young Muslim men carving out joy and identity. It’s about the spaces that hold us together and the laughter that comes from everyday moments in our communities. From the dramas at Jummah, to fillet-o-fish, to the absurdities of gym culture. But it’s also about how the media willfully misrepresents us, distorts our humanity and makes us out to be monsters. Blue Mist questions how we might confront these narratives and the people in power who perpetuate them.”

Boundless Theatre continues to champion young creatives across the UK through initiatives such as Accelerator, the Boundless Drama Club and The Box, supporting early-career artists and community-led work.

Tamasha, known for platforming Global Majority voices and producing trailblazing new writing, adds Blue Mist to its extensive history of powerful, culturally rooted storytelling.
