Bush Theatre has announced its first full season under Artistic Director and Co-CEO Taio Lawson and Interim Executive Director Angela Wachner.
The new programme promises an ambitious mix of UK and international work, collaborations with leading companies and a continued focus on developing artists and audiences.
Taio Lawson said, “It’s a genuinely heady experience to announce a first season of work at the Bush, which aims to broaden the impact of the work we produce, the scope of conversations we have, and the theatre makers with whom we collaborate. In doing so, this season is our first intentional step of blasting open the door to the future of our art form and our relationship with the world around us. Each production, whether it’s in our Studio or Holloway Theatre, is the manifestation of great creative minds merging to give the best theatrical experience possible. We hope to enliven both the hearts and minds of our audiences, with feelings that linger and memories that endure. I’m excited to open our venue to creatives with a real-world view, whether based in the UK or further afield, and to involve companies including Actors Touring Company, New Earth Theatre, and Stand and Be Counted, as we share a vision of theatre that sparks a fire in the imagination, in bold and entertaining ways. This is the start of us, in our own way, transforming, disrupting and exploring what theatre can be.”
Highlights in the Holloway Theatre include Darkling by Titas Halder, a co-production with Actors Touring Company that will tour nationally following its London run.
Alaa Shehada’s The Bridge also features, alongside Chris Fung’s Global Majority, described as a gripping political thriller, and the return of Insane Asylum Seekers, which transfers to the main stage after a sold-out Studio run.
The Bush Young Company will present Before We Forget, created by the 18 to 25 group and directed by Amber Ruby, continuing the theatre’s longstanding commitment to nurturing new talent.
In the Studio space, the season includes Mei Mac starring in The Hungry Ghost, ATTENTION from Dublin Fringe, and Ripples by Stand and Be Counted.
The season also marks the return of national touring to the Bush Theatre for the first time in 20 years, alongside partnerships with companies including Actors Touring Company, New Earth Theatre and Stand and Be Counted.
Alongside the programme, the Bush has announced a new literary team, with Olivia Poglio-Nwabali appointed as Literary Manager and Lead Dramaturge and Frey Kwa Hawking as Associate Dramaturge.
The theatre will also relaunch its Open Submissions process, offering writers the opportunity to submit work directly and continue its mission to champion new voices.
Tickets across the season start from £15, maintaining the theatre’s commitment to accessibility while presenting innovative and socially engaged work.
