Buxton Opera House has announced its 2026 festive production for younger audiences will be a new staging of The Princess and The Frog, written by Robin Kingsland.
Created for children aged 3–8 and their families, the show will run at the Pavilion Arts Centre from 12 to 23 December 2026, following a regional schools tour.
The story follows Princess Fenella and Filbert the Frog in a lively, musical and interactive tale about friendship, promises and a little bit of magic.
Princess Fenella loves life at the Palace.
She loves playing in the Royal gardens, scrolling on her phone, and spending time in her bedroom with her favourite toys. She especially loves playing with her dad’s golden football, but she doesn’t always pay as much attention as she should…
Meanwhile, Filbert the Frog dreams of the life he once had, before he ended up at the bottom of a well. If only he could find a way back into the Palace…
The production is directed by Allie Spencer, with Kerry Allsop producing and handling movement direction and tour booking, and Elle Hibbert as Musical Director.
Design is by Vicki Smith, with lighting design and production management by Meg Ryder, sound design by Adam P McCready, and set building by James Morgan.
Ahead of its Buxton run, the production will tour primary schools across the High Peak as part of Buxton Opera House’s BOH Creates learning and engagement programme.
