CBBC and panto star Danny Adams is bringing his side-splitting Cirque Du Hilarious tour back to the North East next month after cancelling last year’s due to the pandemic.
The new tour will see Danny perform his much-loved slapstick comedy alongside real-life brother Mick Potts and dad Clive Webb, who all star together in CBBC’s Danny & Mick, as well as the Theatre Royal’s annual Christmas pantomime.
The comedy trio will take to the stage in the Laughter Dome big-top tent for three shows a day, six-days a week in Brockbushes Farm, Corbridge, from July 17th – August 8th and the Beaconsfield by Blue Reef Aquarium, Tynemouth from August 11th – 30th, alongside some of the world’s best circus performers.
Joining them will be international acts including Danny Luftman, from Portugal – the Guinness World Record holder for juggling the most boomerangs, and Russian hand balancer Vladimir.
The Chaos 2021 show will look a little different this year due to Covid-19: the big-top will see audiences seated in bubbles, socially distanced, with staff wearing face shields and sanitizing the tent in-between each show.
Danny, who lives in Newcastle with his wife and four-year-old son, said: “People need this now more than ever, to be able to come together safely, to laugh and to be transported to a world full of fun and silly chaos for 100 minutes – it’s the ultimate escapism!
“This will be the first time that we have performed in the North East for a year-and-a-half and we can’t wait!
“Last year’s Cirque Du Hilarious was cancelled, the Theatre Royal Christmas and Easter pantos were cancelled, so we have really missed performing to our Geordie fans.”
The boys have added an extra daily show in to this year’s Chaos 2021 tour, taking it from two-a-day to three-a-day, to ensure that they can still meet the demand for tickets, without compromising safety.
Danny said: “The tent will all be Covid-compliant, no matter what the restrictions are at the time, we want people to feel comfortable coming here. We will not be selling to capacity, even if we are allowed to.
“We need to wait for the next announcement before we know whether we can release more seats from July 19th for the rest of the shows, but whatever happens we can go ahead safely. We will still be keeping our Covid-standards high!”.
Danny has worked as a performer in theatres all of his life and has clocked up 16 years at Newcastle’s panto and 25 years with Cirque Du Hilarious tour across the UK.
However, he had all of his stage work cancelled during the pandemic, with only filming for the latest series of Danny & Mick able to go ahead.
The third series, filmed in August and September last year at Newbiggin Leisure Centre, had to be re-written with no supporting artists or cameos of children or people over 70, to ensure it was Covid safe, and all cast had to isolate for two weeks before filming commenced.
The show, which sees Danny playing a dogsbody in a leisure centre where his brother, Mick, works as a security guard, aired from January 4th on CBBC.
Tickets are already selling fast for the Chaos 2021 tour, and Danny expects to have sell-out shows.
He added: “People are desperate for some light relief and live performance, so there’s a real appetite for this now.
“We also have a lot of new fans since the CBBC Danny & Mick series began, and so there will be a lot of new faces in the audience who have not seen us perform live before. We are really looking forward to showing them just what we can do!”.
A sentiment shared by dad, Clive, who has worked in show business since the 1960s, beginning his career as a drummer in a band, before joining the circus.
Clive, originally from Sunderland, said: “We are very much looking forward to it – it will be the first time we have been able to perform in the North East since the curtain came down at the Theatre Royal for the Beauty and the Beast in January 2019.
“We have some great new acts and it will be crazy – people need crazy right now! This year will be bigger and better than ever and we can’t wait!”.
