Presented by CinemaLive, leading producers and distributors of event cinema, The Australian Ballet’s powerful new production of Spartacus will be screened in select UK cinemas on Wednesday 8 May, for one special night.
One of the company’s most popular works, the tale of a gladiator who led a slave uprising against the Roman Empire has been given new life by Lucas Jervies, choreographer, director and a former dancer with The Australian Ballet.
Jervies has previously created dance works for numerous other companies, including Sydney Dance Company, West Australian Ballet, Opera Australia, Scapino Ballet Rotterdam, Louisville Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet and Stuttgart Ballet. His reimagining of the ancient story imbues it with emotional complexity, a modern-day sensibility and high-impact ballet choreography.
Spartacus will feature the soaring music of Aram Khachaturian with sets and costumes by Jérôme Kaplan, who created the inventive designs for Alexei Ratmansky’s Cinderella.
This marks the fifth collaboration between CinemaLive and The Australian Ballet. CinemaLive have previously distributed The Merry Widow in 2018 and The Fairy Tale Series – comprising of three productions The Sleeping Beauty, Cinderella and Coppélia in 2016 and 2017.
Spartacus screens in select cinemas on Wednesday 8 May for one night only. Tickets are on sale now. For more information and to find cinema locations click here.
