Producers Nicholson Green Productions and Colin Ingram Ltd have announced a second UK and Ireland tour of Midsomer Murders: The Killings at Badger’s Drift, following the success of the theatrical world premiere and its 2025/26 tour.
The stage adaptation of Caroline Graham’s bestselling novel, adapted and directed by Guy Unsworth, will open at The Alexandra, Birmingham, on 23 April 2027 before visiting venues across the UK and Ireland through to July.
Daniel Casey will reprise the role of Inspector Tom Barnaby. Casey is well known to television audiences for playing Sergeant Troy in Midsomer Murders between 1997 and 2008.
Speaking about the new tour, Daniel Casey said: “Since returning to the world of Midsomer last October, it has been such a delight to see the incredible reaction of people around the UK and Ireland to our theatre version of The Killings at Badger’s Drift. One of the highlights of last year’s tour was having my lovely friend and mentor John Nettles come and see the show in Truro, getting his seal of approval was hugely important to me. I can’t quite believe it will be the 30th anniversary of the TV pilot and 40th anniversary of Caroline Graham’s novel The Killings at Badger’s Drift in 2027! So, it is wonderful that, after such a successful first tour, we will be touring to even more venues in 2027. Thank you to all those people from all over the UK and around the world who have shown such love for the play, and I can’t wait to bring it to a whole new audience in some wonderful new venues in 2027.”
Based on Graham’s original novel and the long-running television series, the production begins when well-loved spinster Emily Simpson is found dead in the village of Badger’s Drift. Refusing to accept the death was accidental, her friend Lucy Bellringer prompts an investigation that sees DCI Tom Barnaby and Sergeant Gavin Troy uncover a web of hidden passions, buried secrets and deadly rivalries.
The production promises eccentric villagers, plenty of twists and a dramatic reveal, bringing the wit, charm and suspense of one of Britain’s best-loved detective dramas to the stage.
The 2027 tour coincides with the 40th anniversary of Caroline Graham’s original novel, first published in 1987. Further casting for the production is yet to be announced.
Alongside adapting and directing the production, Guy Unsworth is joined on the creative team by designer David Woodhead, lighting designer Matt Haskins, sound designer Ella Wahlström, composer Max Pappenheim and casting director Ginny Schiller CDG.
