Guildford Shakespeare Company will bring Dickens’ beloved novel David Copperfield to Holy Trinity Church, Guildford, from 6 – 28 February 2026, as part of its 20th Anniversary celebrations.
Following its acclaimed London premiere, this inventive three-actor adaptation promises a whirlwind of theatrical mischief and over 20 characters brought to life in rapid succession. Audiences can expect wit, warmth, and a triumphant sense of possibility at the heart of Dickens’ most autobiographical work.
The production reunites writer-director Abigail Pickard Price with the creative team behind GSC’s hit Pride & Prejudice. Joining her are adapters Sarah Gobran and Matt Pinches, ensuring the same vibrant theatricality that has become a GSC hallmark.
The cast features Eddy Payne as David Copperfield, alongside Luke Barton and Louise Beresford, who will shapeshift through Dickens’ iconic characters including Peggotty, Betsey Trotwood, Uriah Heep, and Mr Micawber.
Matt Pinches, GSC Co-Founder & Producer, said:
“It has been such a privilege to bring Dickens’ most autobiographical novel to life, and to see the wonderful response it has had with its London premier. The prospect of opening our 20th Anniversary Year with this enchanting and playful adaptation is very exciting as it really encapsulates everything GSC is about – classic storytelling with vibrant theatricality.”
