The London premiere of We’ll Have Nun of It, a unique new musical with a fully actor-muso cast, opens at The Other Palace following a hugely successful run at Underbelly this past Edinburgh Fringe.
Named a Playbill Pick, this brand new musical is ‘Derry Girls meets Spring Awakening’. It’s 1967 – There’s a change in the breeze. A new contraceptive pill is available, same sex relationships are legal and second wave feminism is in full flux. Against this new era, four friends navigate life at St Anne’s Convent School. But as opinions collide and feelings towards one another shift, the group’s final year doesn’t play out as planned.
A poignant, new coming of age musical which explores struggles surrounding Irish emigration, sexuality, and faith, We’ll Have Nun of It prompts important questions about growing up in a divided world and highlights the vitality of sisterhood during dark times. At its core, the piece explores our need to ask questions and find answers. Today, young people remain frustrated by their need for answers; about the future, the planet, communities’ rights, and the lack thereof. This production interrogates what it means to grow up in a world permeated with shame.
We’ll Have Nun of It has an all female creative team – Rosie Dart has created work for Gilded Balloon at Edinburgh Fringe, VAULT festival and NYMT. Within casting she has worked in-house at Netflix as well as on projects such as Girl From the North Country (UK Tour), Enola Holmes 2 (Netflix) & Luther (Netflix).
