Box Tale Soup returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with A Ghost Among the Living, a new theatrical work inspired by the dark imagination of Edgar Allan Poe.

Combining puppetry, original music and gothic storytelling, the production reimagines several of Poe’s most famous tales, including The Tell-Tale Heart and The Masque of the Red Death. The stories are woven together through the presence of a mysterious scholar and an equally enigmatic companion, as fiction begins to blur with confession.

Drawing on the aesthetics of vintage horror cinema, the show uses handcrafted puppets, a shape-shifting set and atmospheric design to create an immersive experience. The performance steadily builds tension as it moves between strange, unsettling narratives and moments of theatrical spectacle.

Developed with access to Poe archives, the production explores the writer’s fascination with obsession, guilt and the unknown, bringing a contemporary edge to his classic works.

A long-standing Fringe favourite, Box Tale Soup returns with a production that blends craftsmanship with storytelling, offering audiences a theatrical experience that is both eerie and inventive.
