Dirty Dancer premieres at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, offering a playful and irreverent take on the iconic 1987 film Dirty Dancing.
Created and performed by Melissa Firlit, the one-woman show transforms the beloved story into an energetic parody, with Firlit taking on every character from Kellerman’s Resort. Through physical theatre, audience interaction and a reimagining of the classic soundtrack, the production recreates the film’s most memorable moments, including its famous final lift.
While leaning into nostalgia and humour, the show also revisits the film’s themes of class, desire and rebellion, exploring why the story has remained culturally significant for decades. Presented as both tribute and reinterpretation, it invites audiences to reconnect with the excitement and escapism that made the original so enduring.
Firlit describes the piece as “an invitation to play, to dance, to dream”, capturing the spirit of risk and possibility that defined the original story while bringing a contemporary comedic perspective.
Dirty Dancer runs at Underbelly Cowgate from 05 – 30 August at 19:25. Tickets are on sale here
