Don’t You Forget About Me premieres at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, offering a fresh perspective on a much-loved coming-of-age story.
Written and performed by David Shopland, the solo show reimagines the events of an iconic 1980s detention narrative from the viewpoint of a previously unseen sixth student. As he prepares for a 40-year reunion, he revisits the day that defined his peers while questioning his own place within it.
Blending nostalgia with character-driven storytelling, the piece explores what it means to feel overlooked and how popular culture shapes identity. As memories unfold, the narrative moves beyond homage into an exploration of visibility, belonging and self-worth.
Part of Fake Escape’s Fringe programme, the production combines humour with reflection, offering a reinterpretation that invites audiences to reconsider a familiar story through a different lens.
Don’t You Forget About Me runs at Assembly Roxy from 05 – 31 August at 14:20. Tickets are on sale here
