Internationally renowned, award-winning company Plexus Polaire brings the UK premiere of Dracula – Lucy’s Dream to this year’s Edinburgh Festival Fringe, offering a striking and immersive reimagining of Bram Stoker’s gothic classic.
This visually arresting production retells the Dracula myth through the perspective of Lucy, his first victim, placing her at the centre of a dark and sensual narrative. Using life-sized puppetry, director Yngvild Aspeli crafts an ethereal and haunting theatrical experience that explores desire, fear and female emancipation.
Audiences are invited on an intensely atmospheric journey into Lucy’s psyche, where themes of addiction, dominance and inner conflict unfold. The production transforms a familiar horror story into a deeply psychological exploration, examining the contradictions within human nature and the tension between temptation and resistance.
Dracula – Lucy’s Dream delves into the seductive allure of the vampire myth while reframing it through a contemporary lens. It poses questions about what we hide, what we long for, and the dangerous impulses we cannot resist, creating a compelling and emotionally charged narrative.
Director Yngvild Aspeli comments, “To play the Fringe is to enter a living, breathing organism of artists and audiences from across the world. It is as much about sharing the work as it is about what comes after and three weeks of performance is a rare and precious time. Dracula is ready… let’s bring out those teeth and bite into the Fringers!”
With its innovative puppetry, evocative design and powerful storytelling, Dracula – Lucy’s Dream promises to be a mesmerising highlight of the Fringe, blending beauty and darkness into a singular theatrical experience.
Dracula – Lucy’s Dream runs at Pleasance at EICC (Lennox) from 6 – 29 August (not 12, 19, 26 August) at 17:30. Tickets are on sale here
