Awkward Prods returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with Linus Karp Was Hit With An Umbrella, a deeply personal and darkly funny new solo show exploring the aftermath of a real-life homophobic attack.

Written and performed by Linus Karp, the production begins with an incident in Soho, London, when Karp was struck with an umbrella while walking with his partner. From this moment, the show expands into a wider exploration of trauma, memory and resilience, examining both the immediate shock and the long-term emotional impact.

Blending storytelling with Awkward Prods’ signature theatrical flair, the piece charts the legal process that followed, as well as the internal struggle of processing violence alongside unexpected reactions such as empathy towards the perpetrator. The show also reflects on returning to the stage in the immediate aftermath of the attack.

As the narrative develops, it transforms into a theatrical reimagining of justice, staging a fictional trial to confront questions that were left unresolved in real life. Through this inventive approach, the production interrogates the nature of hate crime, accountability and closure.

While addressing serious themes, the show maintains the company’s bold and playful style, combining audience interaction, multimedia elements and dark humour to create an engaging and thought-provoking experience.
