A rapid-fire romp through the warped love lessons of TV heroines and disastrous dates, Lolo’s Boyfriend Show makes its UK premiere at theSpaceUK @ Surgeons Hall (Haldane Theatre) from 1 – 16 August (not 10), at 20:30. Written and performed by Lauren O’Brien, this high-energy solo show blends sharp character work, physical comedy, and lightning-fast costume changes.
Set in her childhood bedroom after a failed career move, Lolo — raised by a single mother and the silver screen — revisits her romantic misadventures to figure out where it all went wrong. With 18 characters, minimal set, and maximum versatility, O’Brien uses projections, music, and fast-paced transitions to explore identity, love, and self-worth through the lens of a modern woman navigating heartbreak.
Winner of the Audience Choice Award at the 2024 NYC Fringe Festival, the show is raw, darkly funny, and painfully familiar. Lolo was meant to be on tour — instead, she’s back home, surrounded by old costumes and the ghosts of failed relationships. What follows is a one-woman deep dive into heartbreak and the thin line between self-destruction and self-reinvention.
Lauren O’Brien, a New York-based performer and writer, brings a multidisciplinary background in theatre, music, and live art. Her previous work includes Jaxx & Lolo, which won two awards at the 2020 NYC Frigid Festival. With Lolo’s Boyfriend Show, she invites audiences to laugh, cry, and maybe even heal a little.
