Patient 13 makes its European debut at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with a darkly comic and deeply personal true story from writer and performer Gail Thomas. Blending humour with raw honesty, the show explores illness, identity and the search for connection in extraordinary circumstances.

Following a shock cancer diagnosis, Gail finds herself questioning everything she thought she knew about life and relationships. As she navigates a world shaped by medical treatment and emotional upheaval, she becomes part of a groundbreaking clinical trial investigating the use of psychedelic therapy.

Set in New York City, the production traces Gail’s journey through dating, isolation and self-discovery, offering a candid and compelling account of how unconventional methods can lead to unexpected clarity. The show examines themes of love, trauma and resilience, while embracing the complexity and absurdity of human experience.

Gail Thomas describes the piece as a gift to audiences, aiming to entertain while also encouraging reflection and connection. With its blend of storytelling and humour, Patient 13 offers a unique perspective on healing and transformation.

Patient 13 runs at Zoo (Playground 2) from 7 – 30 August at 14:20. Tickets are on sale here
