Following sell-out seasons in Philadelphia and Off-Broadway, Cecilia Corrigan brings her hit one-woman comedy The Gay Divorce to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, making its debut at Greenside @ Riddles Court.
Written and performed by Corrigan, this wildly imaginative “nightmare romcom” charts the breakdown of a gay marriage through a riotous cast of eccentric, surreal characters. As a dream wedding collapses, so too does its protagonist, taking audiences on a chaotic and darkly comic journey through heartbreak, identity and absurdity.
Populated by unforgettable figures including an immortal witch, a codependent drag twink Jesus, a post-apocalyptic Real Housewife and even an irate worm, The Gay Divorce blends theatrical invention with sharp humour. The result is a fast-paced and unpredictable exploration of love, loss and the messiness of modern relationships.
At its core, the show interrogates what it means to long for connection in a world that often feels cynical and resistant to sincerity. Beneath its playful surface, The Gay Divorce delves into the structures that shape queer relationships, unpacking themes of expectation, vulnerability and the pressures of personal fulfilment.
Cecilia Corrigan said, “I am ecstatic and excited to be heading to my very first Edinburgh Fringe with a show that has made such a great splash here on the other side of the pond. I can’t wait to share this kooky, chaotic and super fun night with audiences this August.”
Directed by Allison Brooks and produced by Cliff Mak, the production highlights Corrigan’s distinctive voice as a writer and performer, combining bold storytelling with an unapologetically offbeat perspective. With its mix of surreal comedy and emotional honesty, The Gay Divorce offers a fresh and irreverent take on romance and heartbreak.
Promising both laughs and insight, the show is a vibrant addition to this year’s Fringe, inviting audiences to embrace the strange, the awkward and the heartfelt in equal measure.
The Gay Divorce runs at Greenside @ Riddles Court (Willow Studio) from 7 – 29 August at Various Times. Tickets are on sale here
