Cast announced for The Nature of Forgetting tour from internationally acclaimed theatre company Theatre Re

Theatre Re, one of the UK’s leading theatre companies, returns to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe with their internationally acclaimed production The Nature of Forgetting. This explosive and joyous five-star show, which has captivated audiences worldwide, will be performed at Pleasance Courtyard (Grand) from 9–23 August (excluding 13 and 20 August) at 13:15.

A moving and hauntingly beautiful exploration of memory and identity, The Nature of Forgetting follows 55-year-old Tom, who is living with early-onset dementia. As he prepares for his birthday party, Tom is swept into a vivid journey through his past—reliving first kisses, wedding days, and the fleeting moments that shape a life. The production uses Theatre Re’s signature blend of visual theatre and original live music to portray the fragility of memory and the enduring essence of human connection.

Devised in collaboration with the Alzheimer’s Society and Neuroscience Professor Kate Jeffery, the show bridges science and storytelling to offer a powerful reflection on what remains when memory fades. Conceiver and director Guillaume Pigé describes the piece as a turning point in Theatre Re’s unique style, combining inventive theatre with rigorous dramaturgy to connect intuitively with audiences across cultures and languages.

Having been performed over 200 times in sold-out venues around the world, The Nature of Forgetting is a testament to Theatre Re’s commitment to emotionally resonant, interdisciplinary work. The production features a talented ensemble cast and creative team, including composer Alex Judd, lighting designer Katherine Graham, and costume designer Malik Ibheis.
