Theatre Re will celebrate the 10th anniversary of its award-winning production The Nature of Forgetting with a major UK and international tour running from October 2026 to March 2027.
Opening at Hackney Empire on 8 October 2026, the tour coincides with the company’s 15th anniversary and reaffirms its reputation as one of the UK’s leading visual theatre-makers.
Renowned for combining striking physical performance with original live music, Theatre Re has made The Nature of Forgetting its defining work, exploring universal human experiences through a non-verbal theatrical language.
The production follows Tom, who is living with early-onset dementia, as he prepares for his 55th birthday party and is swept into a vivid journey through his memories.
Audiences are taken through moments including childhood experiences, first love and marriage, in a life-affirming exploration of identity and memory.
Developed with neuroscience professor Kate Jeffery and the Alzheimer’s Society, the show offers a carefully researched and deeply human portrayal of memory loss.
Since premiering in 2017, The Nature of Forgetting has toured internationally with more than 200 performances across 17 countries, including New York, Edinburgh, Shanghai and Seoul, earning critical acclaim and multiple five-star reviews.
Alongside the UK tour, Theatre Re will present a Korean production in Seoul, with further US touring planned for 2027 and 2028.
The company is also partnering with Dementia UK, with Admiral Nurses joining post-show discussions to provide insight into early-onset dementia, alongside contributions from neuroscientists at selected venues.
Guillaume Pigé, Founder and Artistic Director of Theatre Re, said: “When we started Theatre Re 15 years ago, we wanted to create work that revealed something essential about being human. We chose the prefix ‘Re’ for our name because so many of the verbs that embodied our ambitions began there: to rediscover, to reinvent, to reveal, and to remind ourselves about the fragility of life.”
He added: “The Nature of Forgetting feels deeply connected to those original impulses – the show has opened extraordinary conversations around memory, identity, care and human connection. We feel incredibly grateful and proud that it continues to resonate so powerfully with audiences across the world.”
