Edinburgh Fringe Review: Whisper Walk at Assembly George Square Studios

Robert Daws, known for his roles in Jeeves and Wooster and Poldark, stars in Wodehouse in Wonderland, a witty and charming one-man play by the late William Humble, directed by Robin Herford (The Woman in Black). The production runs at Assembly George Square Studios during the Edinburgh Festival Fringe from 30 July to 24 August 2025 (excluding 11 and 18 August) at 6:10pm.

Set in the 1950s in P.G. Wodehouse’s New York State home, the play explores the life and imagination of the beloved author. As Wodehouse, affectionately known as Plum, works on his latest Bertie Wooster story, he is interrupted by a young biographer, his wife, daughter Snorkles, and his two Pekingese. Through these interactions, he shares anecdotes about his literary creations, his love for American soap operas, and his musical collaborations with Broadway legends like Jerome Kern and George Gershwin.

The play also delves into a more sombre chapter of Wodehouse’s life, offering a nuanced portrayal of the man behind the humour. The production coincides with the 50th anniversary of Wodehouse’s death and is a tribute to both the author and playwright William Humble, who passed away in 2024.

Produced by Cahoots Theatre Company Ltd and performed with the permission of the Wodehouse Estate, Wodehouse in Wonderland promises to be a heartfelt and entertaining homage to one of Britain’s greatest comic writers.
