Dare Theatre presents Youth in Flames, a powerful one-woman coming-of-age play written and performed by Mimi Martin, making its world premiere at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Running from 1–24 August at ZOO Playground, the show is inspired by Martin’s own experiences during the 2019 Hong Kong protests and explores identity, resistance, and the cost of finding your voice in a world where speaking out can be dangerous.

The story follows Millie, a British-Hong Kong expat teenager whose life is upended when she’s drawn into the student-led protest movement through her friendship with Jesse, a passionate local activist. A single night that begins at a protest and ends in a nightclub changes everything. After a police raid, Millie is separated from Jesse and witnesses his brutal assault. As she pieces together the events of that night, she’s forced to confront her guilt, privilege, and the distorted narratives used to silence dissent.
