Returning to the Edinburgh Fringe this year, The Revel Puck Circus: The Wing Scuffle Spectacular launches into Underbelly’s Circus Hub on the Meadows.
We step into the mischievous world of East London’s bright circus talent, where chaos reigns, laughter is guaranteed, and thrills come in spectacular, heart-stopping doses. From backflipping out of the path of a swinging chainsaw, to soaring on a teeterboard, to diving 15 feet with flair, every moment is a balance between comedy and danger.
The show is underway as soon as we’re welcomed into the circus tent. The performers, already in character, sell popcorn and candyfloss from the front of the stage, and interact playfully with the audience with waves and high-fives. As a result, we’re ready to be entertained when the performance properly gets underway.
A charismatic juggling act has the audience chuckling, high-octane acrobatics have us gasping, and terrifying balancing feats have us on the edge of our seats. And there’s more… The Revel Puck Circus: The Wing Scuffle Spectacular is threaded together by a quirky yet adorable love story between a clown and a remote-control lion. Yes, you read that correctly: remote-control lion!
Not only are the performers engaging throughout, they’re also in complete control from a stage-management perspective. When they’re not performing their incredible feats, they’re setting up mats, moving aerial equipment, or catching props that are being tossed aside. There’s an incredible amount they need to remember, but they appear to have it mastered down to the last juggling pin.
Whilst the primary objective of a circus is to be spectacularly entertaining, one can’t underestimate the amount of skill, trust and teamwork that’s necessary to make it happen safely and successfully. The performers appear to be totally in control and supportive of each other, communicating and encouraging one another throughout.
With a bit of everything packed into this hour-long family-friendly show, The Revel Puck Circus: The Wing Scuffle Spectacular is an exciting watch for thrill-seekers of all ages.
