TV presenter, actor, singer, voiceover artist and author Tom Read Wilson brings us an irreverent, whistle-stop tour of the alphabet. The alphabet reveals the revue, and Tom, letter by letter, word by word.
On the face of it, the idea of wading through every single letter of the alphabet may sound somewhat tedious. Well, that assumption is certainly proven wrong here. Whistle-stop is the key as the show moves along at a swift pace, never lingering too long on a single letter. A self-proclaimed bibliophile, Tom Read Wilson’s love of words and literature is immediately evident and makes this show anything but tedious.
Through stories, sonnets, songs, jokes and even a tap dance, this A to Z of Tom is the perfect prism through which to learn about this logophile. Whilst we may have previously had glimpses of his personality and talent through his theatre and television appearances, Tom Read Wilson: A-Z of Me reveals his true disposition. We’re constantly delighted by a multitude of skills, from reciting Shakespeare to belting out classic tunes, and not forgetting an admirable versatility with accents; the skill-set is undeniable.
From the moment Tom Read Wilson bounds onto the stage, he’s a delightful watch: cheeky and charming in equal measures. Most special is how unapologetically himself he is, with a natural charisma that infects the audience and immediately puts us at ease.
Watching someone who obviously adores what they do is a privilege, and the standing ovation from our sold-out audience said it all. Tom Read Wilson’s unique ability to turn letters and words into a complete show is nothing short of spectacular; this is arguably one of those shows that has to be seen to be believed.
A fabulous slice of theatre, Tom Read Wilson: A-Z of Me is a delightful contribution to this year’s Edinburgh Fringe. What a treat.
