Toymaker-turned-showman Louis Pearl has spent the past 30 years exploring the art, magic, science and fun of bubbles. Bubble and Squeeze brings to life the breathtaking dynamics of bubbles, combining comedy and artistry with audience participation and Jet Black’s music.
We caught up with Louis to find out more.
Bubble and Squeeze is coming to New Town Theatre, what can you tell us about it?
It’s a new show, designed for adults to enjoy the ineffable bubble magic of Louis Pearl, combined with the indescribable music of Jet Black Pearl. We perform together and separately. There is audience participation, and lots of laughs to be had.
How does it feel to be at New Town Theatre?
We are very excited to be in that venerable theatre. It is comfortable, and has a good screen…we’ll need that as this is a multi-media event.
What’s the best and worst thing about performing at Edinburgh Fringe?
The best thing is performing every day without having to travel from city to city… and seeing lots of other great shows. The hardest thing is having to convince people to see a new show they know nothing about, while knowing they will LOVE this show.
What’s the most challenging thing about performing in Bubble and Squeeze?
You just never know what is going to happen with bubbles – things can go terribly wrong in an instant! But these are often an opportunity for the best surprises and funniest moments. Every show is completely new and different.
Who will Bubble and Squeeze appeal to the most?
People who love fascinating music and art, want to laugh and have fun, and who are willing to remember the wonder they once had at seeing something they didn’t believe was possible.
What’s the one thing about Bubble and Squeeze that makes it different from all the other shows in Edinburgh?
This show let’s me take off the filter I employ during the family show, and have a lot more fun. Pair that with the saucy Jet Black Pearl and you have a show that gives new meaning to the word ‘different’.
Bubble and Squeeze is at New Town Theatre 15th – 26th August. Tickets on sale here.
