I KILLED MY EX is a dark comedy following two dear friends, Tina & Lola, who impulsively kill Tina’s ex after he leaves her at the altar. However, as they try to get rid of the body and debate life, death, and a curious case of rigor mortis, events spiral out of control, taking a terrifying turn. Infused with a sharp and provocative social critique, I KILLED MY EX explores the complexities of human nature by touching upon themes of feminism, mental health, and friendship while highlighting the consequences of embracing romanticism or cynicism in today’s world. As Tina, the idealistic romantic, and Lola, the razor-tongue sceptic, navigate the aftermath of a heinous crime, the audience is taken on a thrilling journey of self-discovery and moral dilemmas with a hilarious, wacky, and breathtaking tone.

Who has never thought of killing an ex? Metaphorically, we have to.

I KILLED MY EX plays around with this funny yet dark image of Tina and Lola trying to ditch a dead body as a metaphor for breaking free from a nasty ex after a breakup. The humour highlights how absurd it is that women are always expected to keep cool and stick to their caregiver roles even when continually disrespected. We use female anger and vengeance not to endorse violence but as catalysts for transformation and self-discovery for our lead characters. When Tina, a sweet bride-to-be, is deceived and shamed publicly, her sense of justice grows, and with certain assistance from her friend, her bottled-up anger bursts out in a cathartic moment of extreme liberation that ends up going a bit too far. Although infused with humour and featuring many comedic moments, I KILLED MY EX touches upon complex themes. It opens space to initiate meaningful discussions around emotional trauma, encouraging reflection on the vital role of healthy boundaries in our relationships.

I KILLED MY EX is written, directed, and produced by Emilie Biason through DEAR DARK, her new production company, dedicated to creating impactful stories for the screen and stage.

Writer-director-producer Emilie Biason said: “We are thrilled to have our premiere at the Edinburgh Fes7val Fringe and unleash I KILLED MY EX to the world. The story was inspired by talks with a friend after we dug up some dirty skeletons from our exes’ closets. I love to use comedy to explore the grotesque and the ironic while tackling complex themes and contradic7ons. I just hope audiences find it as touching and thrilling as I do.”
