A Fringe institution, NewsRevue returns to Edinburgh with 100% new content and an exciting new cast in an entirely new show offering a round-up of this year’s news. Do you remember all those heinous headlines?! With the political landscape as it is (here and abroad), there’s a lot to fit into an hour.
From President Trump to the Presidents Club, Brexit to Bitcoin, politicians and celebrities alike come under fire in a turbo-charged barrage of bladder-threateningly funny songs and scathing sketches brimming with punchlines. This multi award-winning show is flawlessly delivered by four outstanding performers at lightning speed expertly accompanied by an onstage Musical Director. NewsRevue‘s exceptional writing, superlative performances and ever-original witty takes on current affairs have made it a Guinness World Record breaker, Fringe First winner and a Perrier finalist.
Director Samuel Hopkins comments, “NewsRevue is the perfect antidote to the apocalypse that is unfolding around us right now, because if you don’t laugh at the state of the world, you’ll cry! It’s our opportunity to let off some political steam but also celebrate some of the more joyous moments in the news, like that time Gemma Collins fell over at the Teen Awards. A show that is in equal parts witty and surreal, NewsRevue subverts the world around it and transforms it into an all-singing, all-dancing, dangerous mega mix of buffoonery.”
The show is acknowledged as a highly successful springboard for all the incredible talents involved, many of whom started their careers on the show before scaling great comedy heights. Described by Chortle as ‘a rite of passage for all comedy new-comers’ previous alumni include: Jessica Ransom, Jess Fostekew, Pippa Evans, Alice Marshall, Michelle Collins, Zoe Lyons, Cariad Lloyd, Bridget Christie, Gemma Arrowsmith, Sarah-Louise Young, Lorna Watson, Gemma Whelan, and Sara Pascoe.
Founded in 1979, NewsRevue is the longest running comedy show in the Guinness Book of Records, regularly packing out houses in London and Edinburgh. The show’s sterling reputation sees the company perform at many prestigious events including Global Women in the News atthe BBC, BBC 24 hour hackathon and Comic Relief.
News Revue is at Underbelly George Square (Udderbelly).
