Cockfosters Returns for run at Turbine Theatre

NewsRevue 2022, the Guinness World Record-breaking, standard-bearing, song and sketch show, returns to Edinburgh to parody politics in our post-pandemic world. From Covid to climate change, disgraced royals to the Queen’s jubilee, Putin to Partygate, NewsRevue will bang to rights those in the public eye and allow you to laugh at the awful reality of current events.

With 100% new content, this multi award-winning institution is flawlessly delivered by four outstanding performers at lightning speed and expertly accompanied by Kieran Stallard as on-stage musical director. Working alongside external writers, the performers, director and MD co-create the show along with former cast members who act as ‘Writers in the Room’ providing first-hand experience of the fast-paced changing headlines.

Producer Emma Taylor comments, What sets NewsRevue apart from other news-based shows is the sheer talent levels of everyone involved; we can only cast actors who can sing and learn harmony lines, be adept at a whole range of accents and impersonations, dance, write, be politically aware, be funny and learn huge amounts of material up-dated on a weekly basis. The hardest part of the show is finding an acceptable yet funny way of portraying horrific news stories. It really is a labour of love from the whole team.

The show is acknowledged as a highly successful springboard for the incredible talents involved, many of whom started their careers on the show before scaling great comedy heights. Described by Chortle as ‘a rite of passage for all comedy new-comers’ previous alumni include: Gemma Whelan, Sara Pascoe, Zoe Lyons, Bridget Christie, Jess Fostekew, Tamsyn Kelly, Alistair McGowan, Bill Bailey, Reece Shearsmith and Mark Gatiss.
