Ellie MacPherson Happy Birthday Mr President

Four Star Review from Theatre WeeklyEllie MacPherson is an American comedian and singer and is playing at the Underbelly Cowgate, Big Belly with Ellie MacPherson: Happy Birthday, Mr President!.

Fresh from a stint on Broadway in the American version of The Play That Goes Wrong, she debuts with this comedy production at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2022.

Dressed to kill, with a wit that could wither a sitting president’s goolies from a hundred yards, we are introduced to Ellie and her talented band.

Giving us the presidential treatment for the hour, MacPherson jauntily takes us through all 46 Presidents of the United States of America (let’s do POTUS from now on). From Washington to W. Bush, from Lincoln to Lyndon B. Johnson we get a rundown of the successes’, failures and more often than not, oddities of the ‘leaders of the free world’ from 1789 to the present day.

Part history documentary, part subversive cabaret, we are whisked from 1 to 46 with some excellent and often hilarious parody, charm and beautifully sung songs.

MacPherson lays out the premise as her obsession with the POTUS and her mission to hold a competition to ultimately gift one of them a unique trophy and become their forever-FLOTUS. (That’s First Lady if you have never been on Twitter…)

Ellie MacPherson: Happy Birthday, Mr President! Is an entertaining, enlightening and classy show.
