Five Star Review from Theatre WeeklyHold on to Your Butts is a brilliantly irreverent parody of the iconic 90s film, Jurassic Park. Playing to a packed auditorium, the show generates a palpable buzz even before the house lights go down, feeding on the nostalgia and wonder associated with the original movie.

For many, Jurassic Park holds a cherished place in cinema history, with its groundbreaking effects and unforgettable John Williams score. Hold on to Your Butts delights in recreating key scenes from the film, often beat by beat, while cleverly undermining the illogical decisions and loopholes inherent in the story – “Oh, I’m sure splitting up now won’t have any impact on the next few hours…” These moments are ripe for parody, and the show creators seize them with glee.

The actors, who play everyone and everything – numerous dinosaurs, cars, helicopters, you name it – Natalie Rich and Matt Zambrano are hugely skilled comedians and mimics, displaying effortless timing and infectious enthusiasm. It’s clear they’re having the time of their lives, and this joy translates directly to the audience. Rehearsals must have been a blast, refining those ideas to deliver a raptor-fuelled, rip-roaring adventure that perfectly captures the tone of Spielberg’s classic. For those familiar with the source material, the show is a non-stop laugh fest, eliciting much spontaneous applause for its in-jokes and perfectly timed gags.

Even if your memory of Jurassic Park is faint, the show’s broad appeal and infectious energy ensure a good time. Adding to the unique experience is the exceptional foley work, led by the dexterous Kelly Robinson, which enhances the atmosphere and adds another layer of hilarity when given the spotlight.

Hold on to Your Butts is a must-see for fans of the film and anyone who enjoys sharp, witty parody. It’s a celebration of cinema’s quirks, delivered with love and laughter.
