Four Star Review from Theatre WeeklyIntelligent Bisexual Woman is a stand-up comedy set lasting fifty minutes, written and performed by Reagan Allen in the Spare Room of the Just The Tonic: Caves venue.

Allen’s routine is a combination of stand-up and comedy songs. In their set, they speak about their experiences growing up in the Catholic Church, realising that they’re bisexual, and pregnancy scares. They also talk about their experiences at Pride, and visiting lesbian bars and not feeling worried about their appearance not seeming gay enough. Also, there’s a song about their undying love for Michael Cera.
Reagan is a charismatic performer, and their routine left minimal dead air in the venue. Their jokes are well-written, and they brought an electric energy to the stage. They seemed to be unselfconsciously themselves, and it made their routine a delight to watch, once I had settled into their particular brand of humour.

The stand-out of Intelligent Bisexual Woman was, doubtlessly, the songs. Having gone into the show anticipating a straight stand-up routine, I was pleasantly surprised by the segue into a song about the Catholic Church being gay. These songs brought something different to Allen’s routine and had the audience in stitches.

However, there seemed to be a couple of issues with the audio of the show – with the venue being small, it meant that the microphone was occasionally too loud, especially during the songs. Despite this, it did not impact the performance as a whole, and did not take away from the enjoyment of the stand-up set.

Overall, Intelligent Bisexual Woman is an enjoyable show, and Reagan Allen is a very charming performer, certainly one to watch in the next few years. Their show is funny, and Allen is a very talented comic and singer, and it is well worth booking a ticket to one of their performances.
