Emma Rice Company has announced the return of its acclaimed production of A Child’s Christmas in Wales to the Ustinov Studio at Theatre Royal Bath this Christmas.
Adapted and directed by Emma Rice, with music by Ian Ross, the production runs from 9 to 24 December 2026, with a press performance on 16 December.
The show follows a sold-out run at the company’s Frome home base last year and brings Dylan Thomas’ much-loved poem to life through music, puppetry, and inventive storytelling.
Designed as an antidote to the busyness of the festive season, A Child’s Christmas in Wales offers audiences of all ages a warm and reflective theatrical experience.
Emma Rice said: “We cannot wait to bring our magical show to Bath this Christmas. And oh! A Child’s Christmas in Wales will nestle beautifully in The Ustinov! Sat invitingly between the spectacular of the Main House and the family fun of The Egg, this breathtaking production offers something a little different – a warm, funny, and heartfelt escape from all that Christmas noise. This precious and surprising show is brim-full of music, memories, storytelling and timeless humanity. A festive gift indeed.”
Returning to the stage after its 2025 success, the production blends Thomas’ poetic text with a rich theatrical language of candles, shadows and live music, creating what has been described as a magical and moving festive experience.
Critical praise has included descriptions such as “Exquisite Dylan Thomas adaptation has magic in every scene” (The Guardian) and “Snow-stopping theatre” (Daily Mail).
The production forms part of Theatre Royal Bath’s continued collaboration with Emma Rice Company under their multi-year partnership, The Director’s Cut, which also sees further touring work across the UK and internationally.
