English National Opera has announced full casting and creative team details for its new production of Iphigénie en Tauride, which will make its ENO premiere at the London Coliseum from 6 to 14 November 2026.
Widely regarded as Christoph Willibald Gluck’s greatest work, Iphigénie en Tauride tells the story of Iphigénie, saved from sacrifice by the goddess Diana and now serving as her priestess. Her life is thrown into turmoil when her troubled brother Oreste arrives, setting in motion a journey towards reconciliation and redemption.
The production is directed by Olivier Award-winner Lyndsey Turner, returning to ENO following her acclaimed production of Noye’s Fludde and recent success with 1536 in the West End.
Making his ENO debut is conductor David Bates, the internationally celebrated Baroque specialist known for championing neglected repertoire. He will lead the Orchestra of ENO in performances of Gluck’s powerful score.
Mezzo-soprano Christine Rice takes on the title role of Iphigénie, following her acclaimed appearance in ENO’s Olivier Award-winning production of Dead Man Walking. One of Britain’s leading mezzo-sopranos, Rice was appointed MBE in 2023 for services to opera.
Baritone Jacques Imbrailo returns to ENO as Oreste after appearing as Owen Hart in Dead Man Walking. He is joined by tenor Nick Pritchard as Pylade and baritone Morgan Pearse as Thoas.
The cast also includes Amy Holyland as Second Priestess, Olivia Rose Tringham as First Priestess, Ava Dodd as A Greek Woman and Robert Winslade Anderson as Scythian Priest, alongside the Chorus of ENO.
Performed in its original French with English surtitles, the production features set and costume design by Soutra Gilmour and lighting design by Tim Mitchell.
Iphigénie en Tauride will receive four performances at the London Coliseum between 6 and 14 November 2026, with tickets starting from £25. ENO’s ticketing scheme also offers free tickets for under-21s and discounted tickets for audiences aged 21 to 35.
