Red Lens, a Black female-led arts organisation founded by award-winning actress and producer Shireenah Ingram, has announced its debut theatre production, False Accounts.
The gripping new play, based on the real-life Post Office Horizon scandal, will premiere across Birmingham this summer.
In a bold move to address the lack of accessible industry opportunities for regional talent, Red Lens is offering paid roles and mentorship to 14 emerging actors and three backstage trainees.
“We’re not just telling a story — we’re creating opportunity,” says Shireenah Ingram, Producer and Founder.
False Accounts is written by acclaimed playwright Lance Nielsen and directed by Jasmine Arden-Brown. The production will be staged at key Birmingham venues including Old Joint Stock Theatre, The Core Theatre, and G.A.P Entertainment Studios.
“This is more than a play — it’s a platform. Red Lens exists to challenge the narrative of who gets to tell stories and who gets to be seen. False Accounts is our way of opening the door for a new wave of regional talent,” adds Ingram.
The production is deeply personal for Ingram, who credits her early experience in the groundbreaking Ballet Hoo! project as life-changing. Red Lens was created to offer similar opportunities to a new generation of underrepresented creatives.
With accessible ticket pricing, free mentorship, and ongoing mental wellbeing support, False Accounts aims to engage the community while shifting the industry from within.
“I personally can’t wait to put Birmingham actors in the spotlight for a change,” says director Jasmine Arden-Brown.
