Jermyn Street Theatre has unveiled first-look rehearsal images for Ghosts, Richard Eyre’s contemporary adaptation of Henrik Ibsen’s classic drama, directed by Carne Deputy Director Kwame Owusu.

The production runs from 8 October to 14 November 2026, with an official press night on 14 October.

The cast features Oliver Alvin-Wilson as Pastor Manders, Cecilia Appiah as Regina, Peter F. Gardiner as Jacob, Flora Montgomery as Helene and Joe Pitts as Oswald.

Ibsen’s enduring family drama explores themes of family secrets, inherited guilt, moral responsibility and social expectation. Eyre’s adaptation brings the story into a contemporary context, examining how these questions continue to resonate today.

Set in Norway in 1890, the play follows Helene as she reunites with her son Oswald, who returns home after years away. As the family gathers to mark the anniversary of his father’s death and open a memorial orphanage, long-buried secrets begin to surface with devastating consequences.

Director Kwame Owusu said: “I’m so thrilled to be working with such an incredible cast of actors, as we stage this extraordinary modern classic this autumn. I’ve loved working with the brilliant Matthew Dewsbury to assemble this ensemble, and I’m so excited for us all to get started in rehearsals soon.”

The creative team includes set designer Cara Evans, costume designer Natalie Johnson, lighting designer Ben Ormerod, composer and sound designer Fran Amewudah-Rivers, casting director Matthew Dewsbury CDG and assistant director Magnús Thorlacius.

Richard Eyre’s adaptation of Ghosts continues the acclaimed director’s long association with Ibsen’s work, reimagining one of theatre’s most powerful dramas for contemporary audiences.
