The Young Vic has released first-look production images from the world premiere of Thelma & Louise, a new musical adaptation of Callie Khouri’s Oscar and Golden Globe-winning film.
The production is a co-production between the Young Vic, Sonia Friedman Productions, Blue Spruce Productions, Ley Line Entertainment and Callie Khouri, with Mandy Greenfield in association with MGM ON STAGE. It runs at the Young Vic until 24 October 2026, with press night scheduled for 16 September.
More than three decades after the film’s original release, Thelma & Louise has been reimagined for the stage by Khouri, with music and lyrics by Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter Neko Case and direction by Trip Cullman.
The musical stars Olivier Award nominees Amy Lennox as Thelma and Rachel Tucker as Louise.
They are joined by Trevor Dion Nicholas as Hal, Jordan Luke Gage as JD, Samuel Edwards as Darryl, Alex Gibson-Giorgio as Jimmy, Letitia Hector as Sarah, Tamlyn Henderson as Harlan/Max and Jack Butterworth as Trooper/Singer.
The ensemble includes Suzie McAdam, Eleanor Walsh, Alex Given, Kamilla Fernandes, Rushand Chambers and Joshua Dever.
The story follows lifelong friends Thelma and Louise as a spontaneous weekend getaway takes a dramatic turn following a chance encounter at a roadside honkytonk.
As events spiral beyond their control, the pair embark on a journey of freedom, friendship and defiance, set against a soaring new musical score.
The production features choreography by Bobbi Jene Smith and Or Schraiber, scenography by Christine Jones and Brett J. Banakis, costume design by Ryan Dawson Laight, lighting design by Natasha Chivers and sound design by Gareth Owen.
Musical supervision is by Kimberly Grigsby, with orchestrations and arrangements by John Clancy and musical direction by Ed Bussey.
Based on the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture written by Callie Khouri, Thelma & Louise is supported by Sophie Hale & Roland Rudd and the Charlotte Aitken Trust.
