Orange Tree Theatre has released first-look rehearsal images for Creditors, the opening production of its 2025/2026 season.

The production reunites Charles Dance, Nicholas Farrell, and Geraldine James in Howard Brenton’s adaptation of August Strindberg’s Creditors, directed by OT Artistic Director Tom Littler.

The darkly glittering psychological thriller follows Adolf, an artist hopelessly in love with his new wife Tekla. But when a persuasive stranger enters their lives at a quiet seaside hotel, suspicion and manipulation begin to unravel their marriage.

Creditors runs from 6 September to 11 October 2025, with a press night on 12 September.

This marks the seventh collaboration between Littler and Brenton, following their critically acclaimed Churchill in Moscow earlier this year.

Charles Dance plays Gustav. His extensive stage and screen credits include Shadowlands, The Crown, and Game of Thrones.

Nicholas Farrell stars as Adolf, with credits including Stuff Happens, The Iron Lady, and Chariots of Fire.

Geraldine James plays Tekla, known for Downton Abbey, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and Anne with an E.

Artistic Director Tom Littler said, “I’m biased, but I can’t think of a better space than the Orange Tree to see great performances and hear great writing up close, and this season redoubles our commitment to exemplary acting and texts.”

Outgoing Executive Director Hanna Streeter added, “As I depart the Orange Tree for Theatre Royal Stratford East, it’s a special pleasure to be welcoming directors and creative teams of all generations.”

Incoming Executive Director Julie Weston said, “What an honour to take the reins from Hanna Streeter at the announcement of such an extraordinary season.”
