Cloudburst Productions, in association with Southwark Playhouse, has released first look rehearsal images for the world premiere of Radiant Boy, written by Nancy Netherwood.

The production opens at Southwark Playhouse Borough on 23 May, with previews from 21 May, and runs until 14 June.

Directed by Júlia Levai, Radiant Boy stars Stuart Thompson as Russell, Renée Lamb as Steph/The Voice, Wendy Nottingham as Maud, and Ben Allen as Father Miller.

The play is set in North-East England in 1983, where a snowstorm traps trainee singer Russell and his mother Maud as they await a young priest who believes Russell is possessed.

A winner of the RSC’s 37 Plays competition, Radiant Boy explores themes of faith, shame, queerness, and the redemptive power of art.

Director Júlia Levai said, “I’m really looking forward to working with this wonderful cast on Radiant Boy. The play explores important themes like faith, identity, and connection, and I’m excited to see how the actors bring their unique energy to the characters. It’s a great opportunity to tell a story that feels both timely and personal, and I’m eager to share it with audiences.”

The creative team includes Tomás Palmer (Set and Costume Design), Lucia Sanchez Roldan (Lighting Design), and Patch Middleton (Sound Design).

Playwright Nancy Netherwood’s previous work includes Warm Lonely Planet, Goodnight, Mr Spindrift, and Just Like the Films. She is currently part of the London Library Emerging Writers Programme.
