The Almeida Theatre has announced the full cast for the world premiere of The Line of Beauty, adapted by Jack Holden from Alan Hollinghurst’s Booker Prize-winning novel.
Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Grandage, this new production offers a captivating portrait of Thatcher’s Britain at its most decadent and divisive.
The cast includes Francesca Amewudah-Rivers, Ellie Bamber, Doreene Blackstock, Charles Edwards, Arty Froushan, Claudia Harrison, Matt Mella, Hannah Morrish, Alistair Nwachukwu, Robert Portal, Leo Suter and Jasper Talbot.
The Line of Beauty opens on Wednesday 29 October, with previews beginning Tuesday 21 October, and runs until Saturday 29 November.
Many performances have limited availability, with additional tickets being released at 12pm on Wednesday 22 October.
Set in London during the summer of 1983, The Line of Beauty follows Nick Guest as he moves into the grand Notting Hill home of his university friend Toby. Immersed in the glittering world of Toby’s father Gerald, a newly elected Tory MP, his elegant wife Rachel, and their troubled daughter Cat, Nick is swept into a realm of money, power and privilege.
From private gardens to country estates, glittering parties to political dinners, Nick’s pursuit of beauty — aesthetic, erotic, aspirational — leads him into a world that promises everything and exacts a cost.
As Nick navigates the freedoms of desire and the rigid boundaries of class, sexuality and public image, The Line of Beauty explores a rapidly changing Britain.
The creative team includes Set & Costume Designer Christopher Oram, Lighting Designer Howard Hudson, Sound Designer & Composer Adam Cork, Movement & Intimacy Director Ben Wright, and Casting Director Sophie Holland CDG.
The production is supported by Dianne Roberts and The Charlotte Aitken Trust.
