Melting Pot and Birmingham Rep have announced the full cast for their new production of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, adapted by Simon Stephens from Mark Haddon’s best-selling novel.
The production will be led by Alex Keenan as Chris Boone, with the role alternated by Imi Price. The pair become the first women to portray the character, offering a fresh interpretation of one of contemporary theatre’s most celebrated roles.
Previously announced cast members Charlie Brooks and Joe McFadden will play Chris’s parents, Judy and Ed. Brooks is widely known for her portrayal of Janine Butcher in EastEnders, while McFadden is recognised for roles in The Crow Road, Holby City and as the winner of Strictly Come Dancing in 2017.
Joining them are Bridgette Amofah, Alex Murdoch, Matthew Bulgo, Jerone Marsh Reid, Carla Garratt, Tom Clegg, Robert Penny and Sera Mustafa, who complete the ensemble company.
Directed by Ned Bennett, the production opens at Birmingham Rep on 5 September 2026 before embarking on a major UK tour across England, Scotland and Wales through to May 2027.
The creative team includes set and costume designer Eleanor Bull, lighting designer Laura Howard, composer and sound designer Giles Thomas, video designer Hayley Egan, movement director Jenni Jackson, costume supervisor Izzy Pellow, props supervisor Eve Hall, casting director Abby Galvin and associate director Anastasia Osei-Kuffour.
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time follows Chris Boone, a young person with an extraordinary gift for numbers who finds everyday life difficult to navigate. When a neighbour’s dog is found dead, Chris sets out to solve the mystery, uncovering secrets that challenge everything she thought she knew about her family and the world around her.
The play premiered at the National Theatre in 2012 and quickly became one of the most acclaimed British productions of the 21st century. Seen by more than five million people worldwide, it remains celebrated for its innovative staging and emotional storytelling.
Produced by Melting Pot and Birmingham Rep, the new staging combines the intrigue of a murder mystery with a powerful coming-of-age journey and will launch a nationwide tour following its Birmingham premiere.
