Further principal casting has been announced for this summer’s production of Jesus Christ Superstar at The London Palladium.
Tyrone Huntley will return to his acclaimed, Olivier Award nominated role as Judas Iscariot. Desmonda Cathabel, recently seen in Hadestown, will play Mary Magdalene, while David Thaxton returns to the role of Pontius Pilate.
They join the previously announced Sam Ryder as Jesus and a rotating company of King Herods. The role will be shared by Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Simon Russell Beale, Richard Armitage, Boy George, Layton Williams and Julian Clary across the 11 week run.
Jesus Christ Superstar will play from Saturday 20 June to Saturday 5 September 2026, with a press night on Tuesday 7 July 2026.
Audiences can also catch a first look at Sam Ryder performing Gethsemane when The National Lottery’s Big Night of Musicals airs on BBC One and iPlayer this Saturday 28 March at 7.45pm.
Tyrone Huntley returns to the role that brought him significant acclaim in the Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production. His extensive West End credits include Dreamgirls, The Book of Mormon, Hairspray and The View Upstairs.
Desmonda Cathabel most recently starred as Eurydice in Hadestown. Her credits include Princess Jasmine in Aladdin, Alternate Kim in Miss Saigon and Lorene in From Here To Eternity.
David Thaxton returns having previously played Pilate in the original Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production. His stage work includes Sunset Boulevard, Passion, Les Misérables and The Phantom of the Opera.
Directed by Tim Sheader, the production reunites the Olivier Award winning creative team behind the 2016 Regent’s Park staging, with choreography by Drew McOnie and design by Tom Scutt.
Jesus Christ Superstar follows the final days of Jesus Christ as told through the perspective of Judas, featuring iconic songs including I Don’t Know How to Love Him, Gethsemane and Superstar.
