The Edinburgh Festival Fringe is renowned for its vibrant showcase of talent, and this year, the Gilded Balloon is set to elevate the experience with an array of new acts and shows. The festival’s original home of comedy has unveiled a sizzling summer lineup, featuring big names like Jack Docherty, Paul Black, and a touching tribute to Andy Gray with the comedy play Chemo Savvy.
Jack Docherty, the BAFTA award-winning star, is returning to the Gilded Balloon with his new show The Chief – No Apologies, bringing back the beloved character from BCB Scotland’s Scot Squad. Paul Black, known for his viral online comedy, is set to present All Sorts, a blend of sketches and stand-up that promises to be a hit among his fans.
Chemo Savvy, inspired by the late comedian Andy Gray’s battle with leukaemia, stars Grant Stott, Jordan Young, and Gail Watson. This new play is a rollercoaster of emotions, combining tears and laughter in a story of family, resilience, and humor.
Music enthusiasts can look forward to Broadside Ballads, an immersive journey through Scotland’s rich musical heritage with members of iconic bands like Del Amitri, Orange Juice, and The Bluebells. For those seeking a nostalgic trip, The Steamie will transport audiences back to Glasgow in the 1950s, revisiting Tony Roper’s beloved characters.
The festival will also feature live shows of the podcast phenomenon The Guilty Feminist, hosted by comedian Deborah Frances-White, and The Political Party with Matt Forde, welcoming the country’s top political minds.
With over 130 shows across two venues at Patter House and the National Museum of Scotland, the Gilded Balloon’s expertly-curated program includes comedy, theatre, children’s shows, magic, improv, and more. This year marks the Gilded Balloon’s 39th year at the Fringe, promising another incredible month of entertainment.
